I like the blanket term – it works for me!!!
Glad you liked the announcement.
In case you haven’t heard, the second annual Holypalooza is right around the corner, and this year we’re adding an outreach component to our joint worship with our “church row” neighbors—Centenary United Methodist, Central Presbyterian, and United Campus Ministries. Outreach activities are scheduled for Saturday morning, September 20, 2014. Then comes Holypalooza worship and lunch together on Sunday, September 21.
You can choose between three different outreach opportunities on September 20:
1) Support Deming Center. Deming Center, a reduced-income housing facility, is moving all its residents to a new facility. On Saturday morning we will present each resident with a bag of cleaning supplies for their new apartment, then enjoy a game of bingo with them. All of St. Stephen’s bags have been picked up (to be filled), so now we need them back, filled, with the number tag—and please mark off that you have returned yours! If you did not get a bag but want to contribute, we are still collecting bingo prizes and funds to purchase bingo prizes, and we can use your help with bingo. On Saturday morning those who choose this outreach meet for a light breakfast and prayer at _______church, then head out together to play bingo!
2) The ISU Community Garden. This garden will be allowing us to do some harvesting for a food pantry, and we will be able to help this group by doing path maintenance (pulling weeds and laying wood chips) and helping some folks prepare their gardens for winter. This group will also meet for breakfast next door and then head out together.
3) Race for the Cure is happening downtown that morning, and a Holypalooza team will particpate. We will need a few devoted folks to be at the site at 7 AM to set up our Team Village booth, but the rest can come after breakfast. Or just sign up for the sleep in and we will bring your shirt to the church.
Everyone who wants to donate to Deming Center or Race for the Cure can do so, and still work whichever of the outreach options appeals to them the most on Sept 20.
